Commentary
We have been very impressed with this little brand making their contribution to accessible Swiss made tourbillons. For the masses, dare we say. We reviewed their earlier offerings, which are still available on their catalog:
And here they present their Chapter 4.6 with a new complication – the GMT indicator. The movement is modified from their earlier BCP Tourbillon to incorporate this new hand.
The aesthetics have also taken a turn for the classical. Especially so as this is an inspiration from and an tribute to the Morgan vintage motor car.
The dial is now a luscious cream hue, with a pearlescent finish, and not skeletonised like the other models. Hands remain Dauphine styled with faceted arrowhead appliqués for the indices. The case is the larger 44 case, even though the 4.5 is now available in a smaller 40mm case.
The tourbillon is displayed in an aperture at about 7 o’clock, and a GMT hour dial appears to counter balance it at 1 o’clock. The crown remains at 4 o’clock. Overall, this is an elegant looking watch. Very classical.
Even Horage, who are probably their closest Swiss competitor now pitch their Lensman 1 Tourbillon at close to CHF 9k. So the Ba1110d Chapter 4.6 still represents excellent value, despite being their most expensive offering to date.
We continue to keep a close eye at this rather amazing new manufacture. Stay tuned for more news.
Release details
BA111OD is unveiling a brand-new model in its collection, in a very exclusive series of 30 numbered pieces. Taking up the brand’s codes, the Chapter 4.6 GMT Tourbillon 1920 Limited Edition is nonetheless more classic than its predecessors, with a pared-down dial revealing only its tourbillon and GMT function, in a choice of colours and shape inspired by the Morgan, those cars that are certainly contemporary but whose styling evokes the early 20th century.
A classic model
With its vintage style, the BA111OD Chapter 4.6 GMT Tourbillon 1920 Limited Edition is inspired not only by the curves and colours of the Morgan Plus 6 automatic metallic green 2023, but also by the philosophy of the British car manufacturer. This new model may be classic in its design, but it is certainly modern in its conception: entirely developed and crafted in Switzerland with some of the finest artisans, it has a 44mm case in raw grade 5 titanium, with the crown always positioned at 4 o’clock. Powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement with a 105-hour power reserve developed by the brilliant watch designer Olivier Mory, it features a pearled cream dial with a dome- shaped GMT counter at 1 o’clock and a tourbillon at 7 o’clock. As with previous BA111OD models, this timepiece also incorporates NFC technology in the watch’s sapphire crystal, with features such as a concierge service and a personalised user experience, reinforcing the special bond with its customers. A feat that the brand was the first to offer, and one that demonstrates its commitment to innovation. Finally, the deep green crocodile-style leather strap with its folding clasp pays homage to the body colour of the aforementioned model.
A certain art of living that’s worth sharing
Looking like it just came out of a collector’s garage, yet so new… That’s how the Morgan could be described. With its respect for tradition and authenticity, combined with a touch of modernity, it is the expression of a certain art of living. For Thomas Baillod, the founder of BA111OD, “this century-old know-how that innovates gently continues to make us dream and gives us the desire to escape, to be free. That’s why BA111OD, which recently added a Morgan Plus 6 automatic metallic green 2023 to its collection, is planning a unique surprise for the 30 owners of this limited edition. A draw will be held when the watches are handed over to determine the lucky owner, who will be offered an unforgettable weekend of driving in this car. Sharing a certain art of living, as only BA111OD could have imagined…
