Panerai first released the Luminor Marina with blue dial PAM01313 in 2020. The watch is a permanent model in the Luminor collection and is a contemporary staple of the brand.

Retail is USD 7,700. A similar model, but hand-wound the Blue Mare PAM 1085 retails for USD 5,400.
Launched in 2020, the year of the Luminor, this is a new release last year in blue, one of the most popular dial colours. This is not the first Panerai with a blue dial, as the brand have a number of Luminor and Radiomir watches with dials of this hue. But this new release is of interest to Paneristis, this marks a return to the basics after a wild journey of controversial changes like blue seconds hand and vastly reduced water resistance ratings.
The Case and Dial
The 44mm by 15.65mm watch is cased in brushed stainless steel with a similar 1950 3 days case shape. It bears the same sandwich dial, numerals, and seconds layout. Steel colored hands are used as opposed to the recent blue seconds hands, but with an additional ‘Automatic’ wording on the dial.
The blue sunburst dial is contemporary without fauxtina or other vintage-esque features. The blue sunburst dial lends an exceptional flare to the otherwise austere design.
The case is thick and tough, with a waterproof rating of 300m. It is crafted in typical tool watch fashion, with straight thick lugs, and the iconic D crown guard mechanism.
A quick release mechanism activated by suppressing a pin button is located at the back of the lugs. This makes it easy for strap changes without damaging the lugs.
Unlike other Luminor models with the 9000 caliber, the watch comes with a closed caseback.
The Movement: Caliber P.9010
The Panerai PAM01313 uses the Caliber P.9010. The watch features a closed case back, and the movement is not visible. It is the one of the earlier generation in-house Panerai movements found in their basic models. The movement is self-winding with 3 days power reserve. It beats at 28,800 vph.
Caliber P.9010 is the successor to the P.9000 movement, featuring a slightly slimmer design and a balance bridge secured on two sides.
The automatic P.9010 calibre, entirely developed and created in the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, has central hour and minute hands, the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock.
Concluding thoughts
Panerai’s PAM01313 is a quintessential Luminor timepiece that’s contemporary, rugged, but unsurprising. In a market which demands a level of hype in order for a product to move, this may not be the home run for the brand. Yes the blue is gorgeous and everyone likes a blue steel sports watch at some point; but it’s otherwise pretty plain. That said, it’s simplicity and lack of fanfare maybe a plus for those who prefer a more subtle Panerai. The watch retails at US$7,700.
