The sub-seconds or petite seconds display is as traditional as early wrist wear gets. Originally the layout of choice for pocket watches, early adaptations of the wrist watch also adopted the sub-seconds layout. Today, we select three of the most captivating sub-seconds timepieces released in Watches & Wonders 2021 that you should know about.

Chopard L.U.C QF Jubilee

This new 39 mm-diameter timepiece features ideal proportions and curved lines inspired by a L.U.Chopard model dating from the 1950s. The robustness of stainless steel – used for the first time in the history of the L.U.C collection for a watch certified by the Fleurier Quality Foundation.

Chopard’s latest L.U.C QF Jubilee is an excellent addition to the collection and is not only a practical and versatile watch, but also very rare with just 25 pieces made.

Priced at SGD20,000 including GST for stainless steel, the L.U.C QF Jubilee is more affordable than Lange’s Saxonia in gold, and Patek’s Calatrava. The L.U.C QF Jubilee does not shy from the competition, for its pedigree movement and finishing as well as technical competence.

Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921

Vacheron Constantin’s Historiques American 1921, celebrates its 100 years anniversary with new models in a white precious metals. The collection consists of two white gold models in 36.5mm and 40mm, and a new 100-piece platinum limited edition.

The iconic Historiques American 1921 is an example of one of the brand’s earliest purpose driven designs – the driver’s watch. The movement and the dial is given a 45 degrees displacement so that the watch reads perpendicularly when the wrist is extended to the steering wheel.

Patek Philippe Calatrava Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5236P

Patek is well known for their Perpetual Calendar watches, creating the definitive Perpetual Calendar watch layout with the Ref. 3940. But the latest Ref. 5236P with the inline display is both minimal and ingenious. The display is inspired by its pocket watch – the Ref. 725/4, which can be seen in the Patek Philippe Museum.

The case is currently only available in platinum, with a diameter of 41.3 mm and a height of merely 11.07 mm. And the launch model has a blue dial with a black gradation to the periphery is adorned with a vertical satin finish. The in-line display shows the day, date and month in a panoramic aperture below the Patek Philippe logo, and makes the perpetual calendar display look very clean and easy to read.

The watch is priced at US$130,110.
