Our Spot the Watch column have featured many professional sportsmen and their luxury watches. In this Chillout TGIF piece, we take a look at the Top Ten Watches worn by the English Premier League football players.

The English Premier League football is home to some of the UK’s most expensive sportsmen, it’s hardly a surprise that so many of them own pretty impressive watches. But which watches are they choosing? Here is the list compiled by Barrington Watch Winders, with our comments.

1- Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

A whopping 21 percent of current Premier League players have one of these beauties, with 45 players sporting them.

Out of those, 16 of them chose the 116500LN (S$17,640), and more than one would be sporting the Gemset or Rainbow. We all know how desirable, and how difficult it is to score one of these watches, so we can only guess these celebrity football players are able to get around the perennial waitlist problems which plague regular collectors.

2- Rolex Datejust

The Datejust is one of the cheaper Rolex models, and is the quintessential “goes everywhere, does everything” watch. The Rolex website lists no less than 53 variants of Datejust 41 alone!

Due to its versatility and price tag, it’s no surprise that 22 members of the Premier League own various Datejust models.

3- Rolex Submariner

The Submariner is one of the best known diving watches. Though like the rest of us, we don’t suppose many of the Premier League players are also divers, at least not professionally. So the Submariner is likely used as desk divers, and at most perhaps may see some action in the football field.

The Rolex website lists 9 variants, and 20 Premier League players sport Submariners, with 10 of them sporting similar steel models.

4- Rolex Day-Date

The Day-Date is the proposed by Rolex as their premier Classic watch. The watch is well known as the choice of influential people, from businessmen and industrialists to Heads of State. Perhaps due to this, it is quite often not the first choice of seasoned collectors, who prefer more understated SS sports models.

5- Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

Perhaps it is not a big surprise that the first non-Rolex to break the top ten is Audemars Piguet. And it is the cornerstone of their collections – the Royal Oak.

10 players own different models of Royal Oak, with another 5 own the Royal Oak Offshore.

6, 7, 8 – Hublot Big Bang, Patek Phillipe Nautilus and Rolex GMT

Three giants vie for the 6th spot – and whilst they’re all pretty different it’s easy to understand why each of these are popular enough to be owned by 4% of Premier League players.

9, 10 – Hublot Classic Fusion, Rolex Yacht-Master

Two more icons are tied for the last two spots. The Classic Fusion is a polished take on sporting comfort, and the Yacht-Master is an elegant and perfect dress watch.

  1. Don’t be fooled, these guys who bought the steel Daytona bought because they can afford the stupid prices or because they have contacts. They didn’t buy them because they have taste, because they have a lack of taste in bucket loads.
