The month of July 2017 got us into the need for speed, with two of the horological events for the month of July honouring the spirit of performance and racing. We begin with the presentation of the SIHH 2017 Girard-Perregaux Laureato new creations.
Horological Happenings for the month of July 2017
Girard-Perregaux Laureato by The Hour Glass – 7th July
In 1975, Girard-Perregaux introduced the original Laureato model equipped with an octagonal polished bezel and an integrated bracelet. It remained as an icon in the 70s for the brand. To celebrate its return to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie de Genève (SIHH), Girard-Perregaux relaunched the Laureato series, unveiling it once again to friends of the media and guests on the evening of 7th July.
The new creations (you can read more about them here) consists of Skeleton and Tourbillon pieces that comes in three new sizes: 42mm, 38mm and 34mm.
Attendees also had the chance to watch a demonstration from the maison’s watchmaker on how skeleton dials are carefully hand-finished. The cocktail event organised by The Hour Glass held at Takashimaya attracted a huge turnout of nearly a hundred guests.
Louis Moinet – 12th July
Jean-Marie Schaller, Louis Moinet CEO and Creative Director was in town to meet with our guests over an intimate evening to showcase the limited editions of this year.
Held at the private kitchen of Muse Amuse, the event was an interesting introduction to the brand who is listed in the books as the inventor of the chronograph. A model of the first chronograph was available for attendees to look at, as well as their entire collection.
Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Giveaway – 14th July
In June, we ran a Facebook contest for Fathers’ Day to give away two Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph 44mm worth S$1,700 each.
We met with our two very lucky readers on 14th July for a mini prize-presentation ceremony, to present the watches to them, as well as to share with them more about the brand and how to use the functions on the timepiece.
Winner Ms Meishan Ang shared that she will be giving the watch to her husband to thank him for being a caring and hands-on daddy to their two young children. He has since started using it as his “daily beater”, incorporating it into his weekdays to the office. He commented that he likes the stunning dial on the watch and its hefty presence.
Winner Mr Irfan Ozil told us that he will be giving the watch to his father upon adjusting the size of the bracelet. He also shared that this giveaway came as a timely gift for him to show appreciation to his father.
The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph 44mm features a charming silver sunburst dial with three contrasting sub-dials in deep blue, which exudes a strong and confident persona on this easy-to-maintain quartz watch.
More details about the Aikon Chronograph can be found here.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli by Sincere Fine Watches – 20th July
Guests of Roger Dubuis were introduced to the brand’s latest collaboration with race car tyre maker Pirelli on the Excalibur Spider, with a limited edition of 88 pieces worldwide.
Attendees were first greeted by the colourful Pirelli P Zero tyres on display, before entering the dimly-lit exhibition space, deliberately created to invoke an exciting atmosphere designed to present the watches in a resolutely different light.
After the hands-on experience with the watches, the guests learnt that the winning motorsport type rubber is used in the creation of the straps on the partnership pieces.
Finally, a special cocktail concocted for the evening by the bar of Smoke & Mirrors (National Gallery Singapore) was introduced, named aptly after this worldwide launch event, “Dare to be Rare”.
Montblanc TimeWalker – 22nd July
Montblanc takes a journey back to the glory days of motor racing with timepieces that capture the beauty, spirit and values of motorsport history.
The TimeWalker comes from Montblanc’s sport collection that symbolizes the spirit of racing. The review that we did on the SIHH 2017 TimeWalker Chronograph UTC in March this year was also presented during the evening.
Guests were invited to experience the re-introduction of five professional watches made with Minerva movement in the new collection.
Held at the Lantern at The Fullerton Bay Hotel, guests were first welcomed by Matthieu DuPont, Managing Director of Montblanc and guests were treated to a spectacular fireworks display, courtesy of the Singapore government, as the venue overlooks Marina Bay where the National Day Celebrations rehearsal were being held.

I like many of the watch brands you feature, explore and review. However your taste in editorial I’m really disappointed on the spot the watch writings. The review you did in late July on the Rolex watches LANCE ARMSTRONG was spotted wearing. YOU, YES YOU COULD HAVE LEFT THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS OUT OF POSTING. VERY UN-PROFESSIONAL. Very disrespectful and distasteful at best. A guy left a comment; why should we give him (Lance) the time I’d day? That response/ comment could’ve been avoided if it wasn’t for your negative comments in your writings. So why should anyone or anybody or any watch brand give you disrespectful folks the time of day ? They and we shouldn’t. I’m on the WATCHVILLE APP and Thank God I have the option to remove the dEpLoYaNt watch reviews. I have contacted Hodinkee and a host of others well as some major players and watch brands and shared your horrible piece of writing on Lance, Rolex and the cycling associations. Not to mention the watchmakers associations and their brand partners. SHAME ON YOU.
