When you are Hublot, re-inventing something takes on a new meaning. So when they under took that task, they came up with this special piece: A bullet.
The team at Hublot decided to create a pocket watch that the owner actually would wear, instead of the fate that befalls most modern pocket watches which end up on the table as a clock. The concept that it can be worn as a pendent, or clipped on to a pocket or bag came up. But why the shape of a bullet casing? When visiting Mexico, head of Hublot’s High Complications department Mathias Buttet saw that the locals were wearing 9mm bullets as necklaces. These are supposedly good luck charms in many cultures across the world. Thus the form of the bullet was born.
Equipped with horizontal tourbillon the movement tells the time by 3 rotating wheel, visible through the aperture on the case. The top pointy part is highly polished, and acts like a crown. Turn to wind, and pull out set the time.
The tourbillon is an interesting complication, adding horological interest, but in a traditional tourbillon where the balance is in a fixed position in the pocket, where the tourbillon can effectively equalize the effects of gravity, is more or less negated by the way the MP-03 hangs, with the tourbillon horizontal to the ground.
The ingenious owner of this watch, made a custom strap so that in addition to wearing it as a pendent, or clipped on a bag/jeans pocket, it can also be worn on the wrist.
