Hi End Bicycles: presenting the new (2022 model) Trek Madone

We continue with our exploration on high end bicycles with the 2022 Trek Madone Project One with Enve SES wheelset and Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 belonging to reader Terence.

ChillOut TGIFridays: The 2022 Trek Madone SLR 9 Gen 6 Project One with Enve SES wheelset and Shimano Dura-Ace Di2

We have covered Trek bicycles before, but our presentation then was the Trek Madone 9.0 H2. Today’s feature is a newer version from the 2022 model year. The SL and SLR series succeded the 9.0 in 2019. Terence’s Madone SLR 9 Gen 6 is a Trek Project One model, with customisations done by Trek, including special paintwork and choice of components.

Frame: Trek Madone SLR 9 Gen 6

Terence’s bike is in size 52, and in a custom paint by Paint Extreme. The paintwork is called Prismatic Silver, and is a silver base, with multi-colour reflections in sunlight.

Cockpit is from Trek, and he uses a 100mm stem on a 400mm wide integrated carbon bar. All cables are tucked inside the bar for a neater look and the handlebar is more aerodynamic.

Wheelset – Enve 5.6

The wheelset is the Enve 5.6 carbon disc wheels, with Chris King R45 hubs. The profile on the front is 54mm and the rear is 63mm. Tyres are Pirelli P-Zero in 26mm width.

Groupset – Shimano Dura Ace 9270

Groupset is Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 9270. This Shimano model is the electronic version of the one on my Pinarello. Electronic shifting is more precise, and faster as one shifts through the gears. And as the shifts are activated by motor, it occurs with just a push of the button, and does not require the shift levers to pull cable to perform the shifts. Trim is also automatically applied to front derailleur after each shift.

Front chainring is 52./36, and Terence uses the Favero Assioma Duo pedal based power meter.

The rear cassette is 11-28, and a Ceramic Speed OSPW in matching silver is used for the rear. Ceramic Speed is aslo used in the bottom bracket in place of the regular Dura-Ace bracket.

Finishing kit & accessories

Rounding up the finishing kit is an all carbon Björn Sedlo size 143mm. The full carbon saddle weighs in at a weight weanie 85g.

The head unit is the Garmin Edge 1030, which is the same as the one I use on my Pinarello Dogma F10. The front light is mounted below the Garmin, and is the Cycliq Fly 12 Sport for the front.

And the Cycliq Fly Gen 3 on the rear. The lights carry a front and rear facing camera which records views of both ends. This light and camera system is the same as the one installed in James Martin’s Trek as well.

Concluding thoughts

This is a top level build from Trek. The Project One custom build is impressive, especially the superbly beautiful paintwork. The components chosen are top drawer, from the Enve wheelset to the Dura-Ace Di2 groupset and even the accessories like the Cycliq light-camera setup. Very beautiful bicycle.
