Commentary

The Tangente lineup is Nomos’ classical dress watch line, which according the Nomos website now boasts of 28 models. The Neomatik models are equipped with the self-winding movements. The entire lineup has a modern design vibe about it. The flat stainless steel case has angled lugs which is reminiscent of a coin. The dial features sleek linear typography with the slim arabic numerals for even hours, bars for the odd, and matching stick like hands. We have covered it several times in our News and Reviews. The Tangente is the most successful watch from the manufacture. An early full review is from 2015 during the launch of the Tangente neomatik.

This novelty is a refresh with a stunning blue dial made in an interesting manner- the dial is gold plated before being galvanised in blue, and polished. While the Nomos documentation is not clear why the gold plating is necessary, we think it is to ensure that the blue deposits made during the galvanisation process takes on better to the dial, and gives a shimmer to the dial.

All other aspects of the new watches are the same as the existing collection which it joins. The watch is offered in two case sizes – a 35mm and a 39mm. And both are equipped with the in-house DUW 3001 automatic movement. This is a movement with the proprietary Nomos swing escapement system. The rotor is bi-directional and the movement stands at an impressively slim 3.2 millimeters in height.

An interesting anomaly is the price discrepancy between those quoted above (from The Hour Glass and Watches of Switzerland who are the exclusive retailer for Singapore) and the prices on the Nomos website. For example, the Singapore retailer price for the Tangente Neomatik Blue Gold 39 is SGD 5,080 and the price quoted on the website is SGD 4,530. The same premium is also applied to the 35mm models (SGD 4,810 vs SGD 4,280). All prices are inclusive of GST, and free shipping from Nomos direct.

Rhodium-plated hands and silver numerals and indices provide subtle accents, while the gold “neomatik” lettering denotes the innovative movement that powers this watch: The highly precise and sensationally flat DUW 3001 automatic caliber, manufactured in-house, ticks away on the inside of this watch.
