Commentary
The Reine de Naples is one of the icons of not only Breguet, but also of the watchmaking industry. The watch, first created for the Queen of Naples has the distinction of being the first wrist watch ever made, and one for a lady. We have covered the watches in detail as follows:
- Breguet Reine de Naples, 2014
- Reine de Naples MOP Moonphase, 2019
- Breguet Reine de Naples 8918 Grand Feu, 2020
- Breguet’s special complication to express eternal love in the new Reine de Naples Cœur, 2021
- Breguet Reine de Naples 8938, 2021
The two novelties offer quite different aesthetics, though they both use the same design blueprint, and is the same watch in different dress. Both are in white gold and gemset. Both feature large expanding Breguet Arabic numerals with a large pear cut gem set at 6 o’clock.
The first is in a black grand feu enamel dial, a first use for the Reine de Naples series. The dial features white Breguet Arabic numerals. This model features a bezel with brilliant-cut diamonds with the pear cut gem at 6 being a large diamond.
The second is a mother-of-pearl dial. This is not the Reine de Naples to feature the MOP dial, but the first to combine the natural material with guilloché engravings. The MOP dial is white, and features the hour markers in Red Breguet Arabic numbers. The bezel is set with red rubies on the flange and crown, and the gem at 6 o’clock is a large pear-cut ruby.
The movement used in both is the in-house Breguet Caliber 537/3, a self winding movement with 45 hour power reserve. The rotor is in platinum and the movement utilises a silicon escapement.
