Spot the Watch: Royal Wedding of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Yesterday Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in England and they are now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.  It was a grand affair and was televised around the world on television and social media platforms.  With many guests from around the world there was a good chance for some watch spotting.

Prince William was Prince Harry’s best man and was wearing his trusty Omega Seamaster gifted to him by his mother Diana, the Princess of Wales.  Prince Harry appeared not to be wearing a watch at all.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby appeared to be wearing a Seiko Quartz with smooth bezel under his attire while officiating.  We took this screenshot from the YouTube stream of the service. (We looked at some other pictures of the Archbishop which suggests the watch is a Seiko Quartz)

Prince Charles, walked Meghan Markle down the aisle, which was a lovely gesture on his part.  He was wearing his Parmigiani Toric Chronograph.

Close up of the watch during the ceremony.  You can see the gold applied logo and the roman numerals of the watch.  We first featured it back in 2015.  We published this before Parmigiani sent out their press release on May 23. The Parmigiani release documented a Toric Chronograph with Arabic numerals, which is incorrect.

The close-up below clearly shows that the watch sports Roman numerals instead of Arabic. This also goes to show that as Parmigiani got the watch incorrectly, Prince Charles bought the watch and is not a sponsored ambassador.

English comedian and talk show host James Corden was wearing his stainless Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with black dial.

Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl of Spencer and the uncle of Prince Harry was wearing a Cartier Roadster and his wife appeared to be wearing a Cartier Ballon Bleu.

James Matthews, the brother in law of Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, was wearing a Mont Blanc Star Legacy Chronograph.

David Beckham, who got a lot of praise for his dressing on the day, did not wear a wrist watch, as he had a pocket watch attached to his waist coat by a gold chain.

That concludes this Royal Edition of Spot the Watch.

Editor’s Note: Edited to re-spot the watch on the Archbishop and David Beckham edit.

Further edited on 24th May, 8am to reflect the incorrect information released by Parmigiani on the watch which HRH Prince Charles was wearing.

  1. Update on the Beckham watch thing. HE WAS weating a watch. A fob watch. Great move. No vulgar displays but a fib tucked away in hos morning suit.

  2. I feel like such a tool. This is like a US Weekly/ The View/ Oscars/ E Channel WHAT IS SHE WEARING segment.

James Corden is a comedian……..I’ll do the funnies if you don’t mind!

No, of course a watch ambassador should not be wearing the watch he represents at a royal wedding. How vulgar. Are you an American? 😉 Beckham was very well advised about this. Justin Welby has a quite old Seiko SQ. i think its at least 25 years old and he fiddles with it a lot when he talks.

  5. Shouldn’t Beckham have been wearing a Tudor now that he’s an ambasador?

  6. A LOT of non “dress” watches in a semi-formal dress event. Times have changed and even Prince Charles has changed with times.
Think this is the best argument if anyone criticise anyone about wearing a non-“dress” watch at a (semi-)formal event.

I never understood the expression ‚semi-formal event‘. A watch is a sign of the wearer‘s personality and for some people of their status of course, so it doesn‘t matter if the event is a formal or a so-called semi-formal one; your watch belongs to you and on your wrist it tells about you.
